Syllabus
Prerequisites:
Target skills and knowledge:: Developing basic statistical notions and operational abilities finalized to the analysis of contexts and processes, and applying them to the study of socio-educative phenomena.
Course unit contents: I - Data collection
II - Descriptive statistical analysis
III - Data analysis using “Excel”
IV - Results reporting
Planned learning activities: I - Choices and problems about data collection for quantitative research; operationalization of concepts; variables, statistic units, population, sample.
II - Statistical description of a collective: from data collection to matrix of data.
Univariated analysis: frequence tables, graphic representation, average and variability measures.
Bivariated analysis: double entrance tables, conditioned profiles analysis and association measure; scatter diagram, linear regression and correlation; dependence on mean.
III - Data analysis through the application of “Excel” procedures and statistical functions.
IV - Emerging data selection and reporting in a synthetic form (pdf or ppt)

Teaching methods: Lectures and statistical-information laboratory with the use of “Excel”.
Attendance is highly recommended, laboratory hours in particular (registration to one of the laboratory turns is needed).

Assessment criteria: Semi-structured test, composed of a theoretical and a practical part. The test must be written or computerized (by Excel).
