Syllabus
Prerequisites:
Target skills and knowledge:: In-depth knowledge of the fundamental elements and the synchronic and diachronic developments of ancient Greek and Roman tragic and comic theatre, with regards also to historical, political, literary and archaeological aspects. In-depth knowledge of the texts in their specificity as theatrical scripts meant for the stage.
Course unit contents: Reading and in-depth critical analysis of Greek and Roman dramas, and of modern rewritings thereof.
The course will include several workshops.

Teaching methods: Supported by the reading of several fundamental texts, we will study both the technical and content-related aspects of Greek and Roman theatre, in order to establish an in-depth interpretive framework. Activities will also include the analysis of footage from modern stagings of the dramas, as an inquiry in the exegetic potential of the classics.
Assessment criteria: Oral exam
