Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students should be interested in history, having rational thought capabilities, attitude on contextualization and comparison among features and peculiarities of different civilizations and ages
Target skills and knowledge:: Knowledge of the Italian and European history, as well as the non-European consequences, between the late 15th to the mid-nineteenth century. The course aims to provide students the understanding of the main characteristics of the early modern society and the evolution of its historical facts.
Course unit contents: The course aims to understand the historical events of the European civilization through the analysis of the historical processes. Beyond the general history of the “old” continent, the different State-building processes will be analyzed and compared in order to stimulate the understanding of similarities and differences among the European State between the late 15th and the mid-nineteenth century.
Planned learning activities: Knowledge of the European history and civilization, as well as the non-European connections, between the late 15th to the mid-nineteenth century. Historical as well as cultural events will be analyzed.

History of Early Modern Europe (1492-1847) – 6 CFR – 40 hours (COMPULSORY FOR STUDENTS WITH ONLY 6 CFU)
History of the European civilization between the late 15th and the mid-nineteenth century.

The Mediterranean during the late sixteenth century– 3 Cfu – 20 hours
The economic and political conflicts between East and West, with reference to the conflicts between Ottoman and Spanish Empires.

Additional notes about suggested reading:: Notes of each lesson. The use of one historical atlas is recommended.
Teaching methods: Lecture with use of power-points, images, sources and graphs.
Assessment criteria: Some lessons may be in seminar form, with student’s involvements on subject of particular interest, even related to the contemporary age. Final exam will be in oral form.
