Syllabus
Prerequisites: To be confident with music bibliography
Target skills and knowledge:: sStudent will acquire the ability to study in depth problems of music editing, with special reference to the period 1700-2000. They will also be enabled to approach problems of music historiography on the basis of in-depth analysis of primary sources and literature.
Course unit contents: The course ill be devoted to problems of historical interpretation related tho music and politics during the Italian Risorgimento. In particular, the cases of G. Mazzini and his essay Filosofia della musica will be examined, as well as that of G. Verdi's theatrical music and its identification as 'national'.
Planned learning activities: During the first part of the course the current problems and techniques of music editing will be presented. Thereafter, the main theme of the course will be approached in seminar form, with practical exercises and visits in specialized libraries and archives, discussions in the class and periodical presentations by the students on the field literature and related problems.
