Target skills and knowledge:: The course on Economics of information is focused on following aspects: the role of information in the decision making process; characteristics of information goods, in particular software; the role of the Internet as vehicle of information, information goods, etc.; Internet as a platform for coordination of business activities. The course is taught in english.
Course unit contents:
Planned learning activities: Principles of economics of information. Costs of information and transaction costs. Transaction costs and market-organization structures. Information asymmetries and decision making. Information goods. Development of information goods. Value, price and distribution of information goods. Network effects and esternalities. Switching costs and lock-in. Demand side and supply side economies of scale. Intellectual property rights (copyright, patents, trademarks). Open vs closed strategies for intellectual property rights. Software as an information good. Categories of software and Intellectual Property Rights. Software development models. Software quality and quality assessment. The business of software. Software products and services. Open Source Software. Open source licences. Extension of the open model to other fields. Information as a strategic asset. Information security management.
