Syllabus
Prerequisites: None.
Target skills and knowledge:: The first aim of the course is studying relation between geography and history, between territory and events, between environment and human communities. We will move from the theories of the past to the most recent ones.
A second aim is to propose an historical-geographical interpretation of Mediterranean region, a key-area of the western civilisation, by means mainly (but not only) Braudel’s approach.
The third aim is to achieve ability in analysing territory, trough specific historical-geographical territorial examples.
Course unit contents: First term, 6 cfu, 42 hours

Time and space

1- Man-environment relation between possibilism and determinism;
2- Pluralism of times and multiscalarity in historical geography;
3- Braudel Mediterranean: an intersection between geography and history.

Second term, 3 cfu, 21 hours

Actors and territorial patterns in the Po’s Delta

1- Instruments for analysing territory;
2- Timing space;
3- Historical-geographical contests in the Po’s Delta.
