Proposals for thesis
Theses concerning:
1) management, maintenance and design of forestry road network (CAD and GIS applications);
2) improving accessibility of rural and forest areas (GIS applications);
3) efficiency of forestry operations (work time study, energy balance, GHG emissions ...);
4) forest machinery and mechanization (characteristics of forest machines and equipment, effects of use also in terms of environmental effects);
5) application and development of technologies for forestry monitoring and forestry evaluation (sensors, mobile applications etc ...);

Theses can be both compilative and experimental in the field.

Welcome student's thesis proposals as long as they fall within the scope suggested above.

Curriculum Vitae
Stefano Grigolato gained the University degree in Forest Sciences at Padova University on 2002. In the same University he performed a master on Environmental Risk Management (2002). On 2006 he gained the PhD on Agriculture and Forest Technologies and Processes. He has been researcher at Padua University from 2007 to 2014. From 2014 he is Associate professor at the same university.
His main lectures deal with mechanical technologies applied to forest operation and wood processing and with forest road network planning and logistics.
The main research activities deal with technologies applied to logging and wood transport system and on the management of forest operations. He provides thorough theoretical and practical experience in the application of GPS and GIS-based analysis on forest operation and the development of Spatial Decision Support System model on forest biomass exploitation. A key topic is the analysis of the forest road network and trails network in mountain area to support the multi-functionality accessibility of the forest. In addition, the research interest focus also on the characterization of wood biofuel and on the alternative use of forest biomass.
Since 2007 he is authors of more than 50 papers in Italian and international journals (included 24 published papers in international peer-review journals) and in international conference proceedings. He is reviewer of international journals as Fuel, Applied Energy, Croatian Journal of Forest Engineering, Journal of Forest Studies in China, European Journal of Forest Research, Forests, International Journal of Forest Engineering, Scandinavian Journal of Forestry, I-Forest, Biomass&Bioenergy, Journal of Agriculture Engineering, Journal of Forest Research and Italian journals as Sherwood and Forest@.
