Syllabus

Common characteristics of the Integrated Course unit

Prerequisites: The knowledge of topics of Basic concepts of Psychology is extremely useful to follow the lessons
Target skills and knowledge: The aim of this course is to give notions on the biological bases of the principal cognitive processes such as emotions and language.
Examination methods: Written exam: 31 Multiple choice questions regarding both modules. The exam is carried out on the computer. In every class examples of questions similar to the ones in the exam will be provided. At the end of the course a mock exam will be offered to allow a self evaluation of the student and to allow him/her to be more familiar with the procedure.
Assessment criteria: Students will be evaluated on the acquisition of the topics included in the book chapters.

Specific characteristics of the Module

Course unit contents: 1) Introducing biological psychology
2) The Anatomy and the evolution of the nervous system
3) Cells of nervous system
4) Psychofarmacology
5) Genetics and Development of the human brain
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lessons will be integrated with video, working in small groups and discussion of scientific papers.

The two modules are complementary and closely integrated.

Students’ active intervention will be appreciated and stimulated.
