Syllabus
Prerequisites: A2 Level (ref. Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) : Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
Target skills and knowledge: B1 Level (ref. Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) : Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
Examination methods: B1 computer test to assess the student’s ability in writing and listening comprehension. The test is taken at Aula multimediale del Centro Linguistico di Ateneo.
Assessment criteria: The students' achievements are assessed according to the method devised by the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo of Padua University for the recognition of language qualification at B1 level as stated by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
Course unit contents: Credit 1: Grammar revision : Present, past and future tenses; modal verbs; articles; quantifiers; relative clauses; nouns and pronouns; word order; adjectives and adverbs; prepositions; indirect speech; the passive; conditional sentences.
Credit 2: Development of reading/comprehension and listening comprehension skills.
Credit 3:Vocabulary expansion through prefixes, suffixes, synonyms and antonyms.
Credit 4: Listening/comprehension of some tracks from audioCDs level A2 to B1.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures. Use of audio material (CDs). Oral and written exercises on grammar and vocabulary expansion. Listening/comprehension and reading/comprehension exercises (multiple choice, true/false, cloze tests, matching …). Such activities will develop the students' linguistic competence by increasing their ability to understand written and oral texts.
