Syllabus
Prerequisites: The course does not require specific prior knowledge.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims at introducing the students to the organization of an ICT department of a large company. In particular, it will discuss some established methodologies for setting the ICT processes (ITIL), the motivations that underlie the choice of products and technologies (ROI, SLA, etc.), some concrete examples of basic informative architectures as well as various case studies.
Examination methods: The final exam will consist of a written test with 40 multiple choice questions.
Assessment criteria: The student's knowledge is assessed by a multiple choice test. The final mark will be also based on the quality of the laboratory activity.
Course unit contents: The IT Service Management (ITIL): processes involved in the two Service Management Areas (Service Support and Service Delivery), their application to the operating cycle of services, the fundamental objectives and the reason why these have been standardized, a short dissertation on each of the 10 services involved, practical examples.

- Service Models: considerations on the ROI and SLA approaches and practical aspects.

- The IT department: structure and organization. General organization and short dissertation on the various subsectors. Accurate analysis of the "Service Desk" (as an evolution of the Help Desk).

- The IT infrastructure: vertically from the network to services. Practical examples (no lab), and case studies to test the deductive capability of the students
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures and laboratory activity.
