Prerequisites:

-Basic cognitive functions (attention, perception, memory, learning and language);
-Main paradigms and tasks to measure the basic cognitive functions;
-Main neuroanatomical bases of basic cognitive functions;
-Main techniques for the study of neurobiological basic cognitive functions. |
Target skills and knowledge:

-From Genes to behavior: a tortuous relationship;
-The Role of genes in determining the probability of a neurodevelopmental disorder;
-The Role of the environment in determining the probability of a neurodevelopmental disorder;
-Cognitive neuropsychology vs. Interactive specialization;
-Sensory perceptual and attentional disorders in developmental dyslexia and specific language impairment;
-Sensory, attentional and perceptual disorders in developmental dyscalculia;
-Sensory, attentional and perceptual disorders in autism;
-Neuropsychological rehabilitation of specific learning and language;
-Neuropsychological rehabilitation in autism. |
Examination methods:

Written Exam (questions with multiple choice) with oral Integration (optional) during the registration.
N.B. the exam topics will refer not only to the chapters of the book adopted, but also the contents explained in class. |
Assessment criteria:

The assessment of the preparation of the student will be based on an understanding of the arguments, on the acquisition of concepts and methodologies proposed and the ability to apply them in an autonomous and aware way. |
Course unit contents:

-Direction for the neuropsychology of the development;
-Major neurocognitive hypothesis of dyslexia;
-Major neurocognitive hypothesis of specific language impairment;
-Major neurocognitive hypothesis of developmental dyscalculia;
-Major neurocognitive hypothesis of autism spectrum disorders;
-Major techniques for the rehabilitation of neurodevelopmental disorders;
-Neuropsychological rehabilitation;
-Rehabilitation through the use of video games;
-Rehabilitation through the use of perceptual learning;
-Rehabilitation through the use of neurostimulation. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

Lectures and laboratory experience in which small groups of students discuss relevant scientific paper of developmental neuropsychology. |
