Syllabus
Prerequisites: The students are required to have passed the examinations of Developmental Psychology and General Psychology
Target skills and knowledge: The lessons will be aimed to explain the theories and the methods to study the development of the cognitive system. Classic theories and the more recent approaches regarding cognitive development will be presented
Examination methods: Written examination with open questions.
Assessment criteria: The theoretical issues will be explained in their general aspects. Students are requested to integrate the lessons with the recommended readings.
Oral presentations of the papers will be evaluated during the course.
During the lessons some representative experiments and some videotapes on development will be presented.
Course unit contents: 1) Domain general and domain specific theories of cognitive development
2)Prederministic and probabilistic epigenesis
1) Classic theories (on cognitive development
behavioral, costruttivist and cognitivist models
2) Nativistic and modular theories of mind
3) Connectionist models
4) Developmental cognitive neuroscience
5) Neurocostructivism
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Slides, video and discussion of the readings will be part of the course.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Students are required to study two books.
