Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students need to have taken an Introduction to Statistics course. They should have a good command of 1) descriptive statistics; 2) basic rules of probability and probability distributions; and 3) knowledge of inferential statistics (parametric and non parametric tests).
Target skills and knowledge: The goal is to present the shortcomings of statistical tests and introduce new approaches to data analysis. The emphasis of the course will be on effect size estimation.
Examination methods: Oral and written examination with open questions.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of the students' performance will be based on class attendance, in-class presentation of a series of articles, and a written examination with open questions.
Course unit contents: Parametric effect size indices; non-parametric effect size indices.
Data management; missing data and what to do with them; methods for analyzing longitudinal data.
How to evaluate the practical importance of findings; how to present results in a meaningful way.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures by the Professor and presentations by students in small groups.
