Brief description of the degree course
Characteristics and objectives
The second cycle degree course in Developmental and Educational Psychology prepares for the profession of psychologist. A 1-year internship and the habilitation exam are then necessary to be licensed and register as psychologists.
The program provides students with theoretical and practical tools for psychoeducational and rehabilitation interventions, as well as for counseling in schools, clinical contexts, and community Services. Students are introduced to the use of assessment and intervention methods and techniques for working in situations in which children and their families experience difficulties or problems, as well as in emergency situations. These courses enable students to understand the functional aspects of the individual: learning, interpersonal relations, cognitive and linguistic abilities in typical development and critical periods of child development, emergency situations, and in atypical development.

Occupational opportunities
Graduates can be licensed as professional psychologists (with the opportunity to become psychotherapists after post-graduate specialization). Developmental and educational psychologists can operate in the following areas: (a) Promotion of well-being in educational contexts such as the family, nursery, pre-primary school, and school; (b) intervention in cases of sociocultural and linguistic disadvantage; (c) assessment and intervention for learning difficulties and disabilities; (d) assessment and intervention for developmental disabilities and disorders; (e) interventions in emergency contexts; (f) counseling for parents, teachers, and other professionals in the areas of typical and atypical development, and learning.
Graduates in Developmental and Educational Psychology gain theoretical and methodological competencies required for post-graduate trainings, including national and international PhD programs.
