Brief description of the degree course
Characteristics and objectives
The second cycle degree course in Clinical Dynamic Psychology is aimed to prepare the student to the complexity of the clinical work in various contexts, i.e. the person, the family, groups and the institutions. The fields of application include: diagnosis, mental distress prevention, health and wellbeing promotion, psychotherapeutic treatment, intercultural dimensions, and social deviance. The lessons foster continuous interchanges between professors and students; the learning of theoretical constructs is consolidated in such interaction and is experimented by means of different classroom exercises. The student's training concerns the following areas: research methodology; theoretical models relevant to the understanding of the person and his/her functioning on the cognitive, affective, social and relational levels; tools for the psycho-diagnostic assessment, the assessment of interpersonal and family relations, and the evaluation of the psychological distress. The sound competence of the teachers allows the student to orient his/her preparation along three main perspectives: psychodynamic, constructivist/interactionist and psychoanalytic. The student has the opportunity to enlarge his/her clinical and research competence within the University Department (laboratories and research centers) and outside, within public and private structures (ULSS, Hospitals, Communities, Research Centers). These opportunities allow the student to acquire a satisfactory basic competence in view of his/her future work as a psychologist and of his/her future specialization studies in psychology.

Occupational opportunities
Clinical psychologist (with the possibility of becoming a Psychotherapist after taking a specialization course in psychotherapy). The clinical psychologist can develop his/her profession in the following occupational contexts: National Health Services (e.g. infantile neuropsychiatry, family counseling, SerD, and in any other health service where there is the opportunity to develop a therapeutic relationship and to offer individual support); Prevention Departments or Public Health Services and in any other structure where prevention programs are activated. More in general occupational contexts are found in the following structures: psychosocial and socio-sanitary services, family counseling services, mental health territorial services, public and private services concerned with assistance, research and social promotion. Furthermore, the clinical psychologist or the psychotherapist can work as freelancer, or as a consultant for local administrations and services.
