Syllabus
Prerequisites: Telecommunications' course; knowledge of the basic principles of telecommunications networks, especially the Internet protocols
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge of the concept of the Internet of things and ability to apply the paradigm of the Internet of things in concrete problems of telecommunications.
Knowledge of the concept of Smart City and ability to apply the paradigm of Smart City to concrete problems of city management, with particular reference to aspects of ICT
Examination methods: Witten exam
Assessment criteria: Checking the knowledge of the topics of the course. Ability to apply the concepts to practical cases.

- The Internet of things and home automation
- Internet of Things and industrial applications
- Definition of Smart City, scientific and market trends

- Different approaches: Long range cellular (M2M), long range unlinecsed frequencies, short range, RFID
- Key scientific topics: the physical layer, addressing and routing, security
- Standardisation bodies and consortiums: ETSI M2M, IETF, IEEE, OMA lightweigth M2M, Thread, OIC, etc. Allseen Alliance
