Syllabus
Prerequisites: Electromagnetism
Electrical science
Target skills and knowledge: A student who has met the objective of the course will be able to:
- Understand the nature of environmental technical problems dealing with electrical installations.
- Identify the proper prevention and/or protection action.
- Verify the compliance with the existing regulations.
Examination methods: I° alternative: oral examination
II° alternative: written development and discussion on one subject related to the course programme
Assessment criteria: Mastery of the course arguments and capability of discussion on their most important aspects
Course unit contents: The course deals with the analysis of the environmental impact of electromagnetic fields. The different effects due to the values of the frequency of the fields are analyzed and biological effects are analyzed and compared with the present regulations; possible policies of prevention and protections are introduced.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Note on the physics of electric and magnetic fields.
Analysis of circuits with sinusoidal, alternate and periodic current.
Three-phase systems.
Structure of an electric network for production, transmission and distribution of electric energy.
Protection against contact hazards in low voltage distribution networks.
Electromagnetic waves.
Interaction with human body and dosimetry.
Sources of not ionizing electromagnetic radiations.
Biological and health effects on the human body.
Instrumentation and measurement techniques.
Prevention, protection and regulations.
Frontal lectures, laboratory practice and field measurements.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Course material (basic): lecture record (Power point presentation of the lecture content is available on the course site)
