Caratteristiche e finalità
Il corso di laurea magistrale in Ingegneria dell'innovazione del prodotto nasce per rispondere a precise esigenze delle imprese in relazione alle dinamiche attuali dei mercati e ispirandosi alle specifiche formative che il MIT di Boston ha definito per la moderna figura dell'ingegnere meccanico. Il corso di laurea, istituito nel 2008, forma la figura di un ingegnere meccanico capace di studiare, progettare, realizzare a costi competitivi i nuovi prodotti e i relativi processi industriali alla luce delle più recenti innovazioni relative alle metodologie di progettazione meccanica, all'utilizzo dei materiali, alle nuove tecnologie, ai moderni ed avanzati impianti di produzione e logistica. È un ingegnere in grado di progettare nuovi prodotti nei più svariati settori e di eseguire in maniera rapida ed efficace studi di fattibilità per realizzare prodotti innovativi ad elevate prestazioni e a costi concorrenziali. Gli obiettivi formativi sono fortemente orientati alle tecniche avanzate di progettazione meccanica, alla conoscenza dei materiali convenzionali e innovativi (quali ad esempio i materiali compositi, i nano-materiali e le leghe metalliche innovative) per diverse applicazioni industriali, e allo studio integrato del prodotto e del processo industriale di fabbricazione e assemblaggio.

Gli sbocchi certi e soddisfacenti nel mercato del lavoro rappresentano l'aspetto cardine di questo corso di laurea magistrale. Lo sbocco naturale, in pochi anni, è la funzione di responsabile tecnico o di direttore di produzione/stabilimento. È una figura strategica per l'azienda del futuro per innovare prodotti, processi, impianti e logistica e rimanere protagonista nel mercato. I principali sbocchi occupazionali e professionali sono quelli dell'ingegnere meccanico orientato all'innovazione e allo sviluppo del prodotto, alla pianificazione e programmazione della produzione, alla progettazione e gestione di sistemi integrati complessi. La formazione che caratterizza il corso è anche apprezzata dalle imprese di piccole e medie dimensioni, laddove venga richiesta capacità di adattamento, approccio flessibile e rapido.
