Brief description of the degree course
Characteristics and objectives
The course trains engineers with solid technical knowledge base in the areas of electrical, information and mechanical engineering, able to design, implement and manage devices and systems with high integration between mechanical and electronic parts. Master graduates in Mechatronics Engineering will be able: to understand the interaction of the various components of an industrial plant both at system level (types of production systems, structures and plant management) and at component level (mechanical project and electronic control of machines); to manage innovative projects by acting in the design and in the configuration of integrated systems; to employ simulation and optimization tools to take efficient design choices both for the mechanical part and the electronic part. The main specific curricular skills are the following: to have the capabilities to deal with the problems related to the choice and the sizing of mechanical plant in the most common industrial activities; to acquire knowledge of the fundamental control techniques of mechanical system; to acquire knowledge about the design and the choice of industrial electrical drives; to acquire the knowledge of the fundamental principles of industrial electornics; to acquire knowledge of the principles, techniques and software tools for developing programs for real-time industrial process control; to acquire knowledge of the fundamentals relating to industrial communications networks; to acquire knowledge on the fundamental techniques of advanced control.

Occupational opportunities
The main career opportunities are in the electromechanical, mechanical and electronics industries with advanced automation departments that design and manufacture mechanical robotic, automotive and aircraft systems, in manufacturing industries for automated production and in industries making complex and highly automated equipment, such as automated warehouses, sheet metal processing, automatic food packaging, textile machines, etc. .
