Syllabus
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims at giving the student the necessary knowledge in order to operate at private societies, contractors and authorities, engaged in planning, design, construction and management of road, railway and airport infrastructures, also providing the proper skills for dealing with safety, cost-effectiveness and environmental problems. To this purpose, the course includes lectures, practical works, seminars and visits of sites.
Course unit contents: Roads: Technical-functional and administrative classification. Traffic Parameters and vehicles. Fundamentals of locomotion mechanics. Platform composition. Road geometry and layout. Road design and construction standards. Pavements, embankments, cuttings, soil works: materials, construction techniques. Pavements: composition and design.
Railways: Classification of railway lines and traffic. Railway platform. Geometry and layout.
Airports: Classification. Terminal, maintenance and operational areas. Infrastructures, pavements and equipments.
