Syllabus
Notes: An internship (or stage) consists of an exchange of services for experience between the student and an organization. It is mandatory for at least 225 hours (the rough equivalent of 8 weeks of full time collaboration) and will fill your study curriculum with 9 credits. Internships are supposed to be unpaid, but the hosting organisation may provide for a grant or some forms of subsidy or reimbursement.
Students may be willing to take an internship to test whether they are suitable for a particular career, create a network of professional contacts, develop and apply some transversal skills (drafting, communication, active use of ITC or multimedia, team working, etc.). Occasionally, an internship may help deepening their knowledge about topics they are addressing in their dissertation.
The stage is supposed to be done during the 2nd year. It can be performed in Padova, in Italy, or in any other Country. Internships in “human rights” are generally done in local, national and international agencies, including public administrations, and NGOs.
Experience shows that most internship opportunities are found by students using their own connections, peer networks, tips from alumni, etc. Professors can be asked to write a reference letter if need is, or to orient students on whom to contact. Many organizations have their own procedures to hire interns. They may request students to work for longer than strictly required to get the 9 credits: duration and conditions of the internship for anything exceeds the minimum requirements have to be negotiated between you and the hosting structure.
The Master promotes workshops and project works that may qualify as curricula internships.
The University of Padova co-finances students' internships abroad ("abroad" means not in the home country of the student). It also encourages students to take advantage of the EU European Voluntary Service, the Italian Universal civil service and other similar programmes.
