Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students need knowledge on forest Botany, forest Ecolgy and forest measurements
Target skills and knowledge: Students will have a specific skill to approach and manage the silvicultural systems to be applied in mediterranean mountain environment forests, mainly focused on site parameters, species ecology and silvicultural systems.
Examination methods: Exam will be e written report of not more than 3000 words and and oral exam with discussion about the topic of the report and the course experience.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation will be on basis of the report with the topic requested and on the basis of quality in answers given to the questions about the problem solving in mountain silviculture.
Course unit contents: In the first part of the course differences between traditional and mediterranan mountain silvicuture will be described focusing on environmental parameters, forest functions and silvicultural systems, including also human activities. In the second part case studies will be analized in differnt forest types of mountain forests present in mediterranean environment and in different silvicultural systems so as coppice and high forest, mountain forest planting.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: First part of the course will be supply as frontal lesson in classroom, the second part in the filed in severel forest environments.
