Syllabus
Notes: It is strongly recommended to attend the courses provide during the first and second semesters.
The student will develop an aptitude in the analysis of forest systems. The course is based on a week-long joint field study tour to forest areas which are managed for a range of objectives (details vary from year to year) where student meets resource managers working on behalf of different stakeholders and engage in discussion with them.
The examination consists in a PowerPoint presentation of a forest areas choosen by the student. Main elements of the presentation are: description of the context in which the forest systems have developed including site parameters and species ecology, criteria for the identification of the forest system, analysis of the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the forest system, focused on the treatments system and the exploitation techniques.
The presentation time is 20 minutes.
The completeness of the presentation, the rational of the analyse performed, the clearnes of the exposition are evaluated.
The course is taught on the field and the students are assisted by the teacher during their experience. During the discussion with forest managers the students are guided by means of prepared interview schemes.
