Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students should have knowledge of Plant Pathology
Target skills and knowledge: The aim of the course is:
- to provide the basic knowledge to correctly develop strategies for the plant disease management
- to deal with the subjects linked to mycotoxigenic fungi infections and mycotoxin contaminations of crops
- to complete the knowledge about grape diseases
Examination methods: The examination is carried out through written test with open questions
Assessment criteria: Will be evaluated:
the understanding of the basic concepts of Plant Pathology and Phytoiatry;
the understanding of reasons behind the choice among the various ways of plant disease control with particular attention to the risks associated with the plant disease management;
the ability to autonomously connect the knowledge achieved in the various courses (even along the first level) to exploit them both in the disease control and in the micotoxin contaminatiomn control.
Course unit contents: 1CFU: Assesment of plant disease losses. Plant disease forecasting. Principles and strategies of diseases control; diseases management and use of the decision-making models; integrated disease management
2CFU: Chemical fungicides: risks for humans and environment; principles of ecotoxicology. Phytotoxicity.
3CFU: Chemical fungicides: efficacy, dose-response curve, effective dose; modes of action of fungicides; fungicide resistance in crop pathogens.
4CFU: Cereal diseases and cereal diseases control
5CFU: Mycotoxins in cereals, grape and wine, fruits and vegetables
6CFU: Foliar and wood diseases of grape caused by fungi; grapevine phytoplasmosis; bacterial and viral diseases of grape.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Teaching will be carried out through:
40 hours of lectures, using Power Point slide shows;
8 hours of practical work, carried out in classroom, in laboratory and in field
Additional notes about suggested reading: The Power Point slides used during the course will be posted on Internet (https://elearning.unipd.it/scuolaamv/).
It is important to attend the course and take notes to supplement Power Point slides.
The Powerpoint slides complemented with the notes taken in class are enough to pass the exam
