Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students must have already attended the course "Lingua e Traduzione Inglese 1".
Target skills and knowledge: During the course the students will continue working on developing their receptive and productive skills towards attaining the CEFR C1 level by the end of the third year of the degree course. The course also aims to provide the students with a basic theoretical background in English linguistics, so as to enable them to analyse written and oral texts.
Examination methods: Part A: End-of-module English lexico-grammar exam.
Part B: End-of-module exams in written and spoken production.
Assessment criteria: The competences taught by Erik Castello will be evaluated with a computer-based test based on lesson-content and language analysis, and with the production and translation of clauses and short texts.
The oral skills exam will be in the form of a peer-to-peer interaction, while the written production exam will involve describing a graph. More information about assessment procedures will be given en at the beginning of the course
Course unit contents: Part A:
The course module delivered by Erik Castello aims to provide the students with the basic competences needed to analyse written texts and oral interactions in English and to translate and interpret them.

Part B: (1st and 2nd semester):
The course modules for part B aim to help the students improve the following skills: written production, spoken comprehension, spoken production.

For both Part A and Part B, the online learning platform Moodle will be used to deliver course materials and support learning activities.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Part A: English lexicogrammar from a functional perspective: noun and verb phrases, clauses and texts. Analysis of texts belonging to various genres: tourism industry texts, business texts, academic articles, spoken interactions. Introduction to “Global English”.

Part B: report writing and graph descriptions; spoken production in English.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Further bibliography and materials will be provided during the course.
