Syllabus

Common characteristics of the Integrated Course unit

Prerequisites: Basic concepts of Physics, General and Organic Chemistry.
Elements of Chemical Thermodynamics,Kinetics and Electrochemistry
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge of the essential molecules to the chemistry of living organisms.
Comprehension of the fundamental mechanisms at the basis of cellular function.
Learning of some biochemistry techniques.
Examination methods: Written examination with both multiple choice and open questions
Assessment criteria: The overall knowledge about the topics of Biochemistry 1 and 2 will be evaluated, considering positive the examinations which show an adequate assimilation of the topics necessary to the later classes

Glycolysis
Krebs cycle
Gluconeogenesis and Glycogenolysis
Oxidative phosphorylation
Absorption and catabolism of lipids
Lipogenesis and sterol biosynthesis
Metabolism of amino acids
Nucleic acid metabolism
Integration of metabolism in diet and fasting


Techniques of protein separation and western blot analysis
