Syllabus
Prerequisites: Course attendance requires basic knowledge acquired in First Year courses.
Target skills and knowledge: The course will present the major areas of clinical psychology. More specifically, the student will acquire knowledge of the main theories and models in clinical psychology, and the basis of multidimensional assessment, psychopathology and interventions in clinical psychology.
Examination methods: The exam consists in a written test with multiple-choice and completion questions.
Assessment criteria: Evaluation of student achievement will be made in relation to the understanding of course topics, and the knowledge and integration of key concepts, processes and methods.
Course unit contents: - Theories and models in clinical psychology
- Multidimensional assessment in clinical psychology (clinical interview, self-report instruments, behavioural observation and psychophysiological assessment)
- Clinical features of the main psychopathological disorders
- Interventions in clinical psychology
- Analysis of several clinical cases
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Classes will cover the main course topics that students will expand with suggested readings, analysis of clinical cases and examples of research in clinical psychology. Practice lessons will be mainly focused on the analysis of psychodiagnostic instruments.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Each powerpoint slide and supplementary material will be made available.
