Brief description of the degree course
Caratteristiche e finalità
La laurea magistrale si propone di formare tecnici specializzati nei settori più avanzati delle biotecnologie industriali, quali la produzione e l'impiego di enzimi e proteine ricombinanti ottenuti da cellule procariotiche ed eucariotiche, compresa la progettazione di anticorpi e di vaccini in organismi animali e vegetali; in questa direzione vanno gli insegnamenti di tecnologie ricombinanti avanzate, biotecnologie immunologiche, produzioni industriali di cellule e biomolecole. Vengono formate figure professionali in grado di progettare e manipolare nanosistemi per finalità biologiche (trasfezioni, imaging, carrier per farmaci), di analizzare struttura e funzione di proteine e delle loro interazioni con potenziali farmaci attraverso insegnamenti di struttura di proteine che comprende la biocristallografia e la risonanza magnetica di proteine, biomodelling e bioinformatica, chimica farmaceutica, nanosistemi, e nanotecnologie. Alla formazione di ricercatori e tecnici specializzati nei metodi informatici per l'analisi del genoma e del proteoma, settore particolarmente sviluppato presso il Cribi (Centro ricerche interdipartimentale per le biotecnologie innovative), al quale collaborano diversi docenti del corso di studi in biotecnologie, sono dedicati insegnamenti di bioinformatica e statistica, trascrittomica strutturale e funzionale. L'acquisizione di specifiche competenze nel campo delle biotecnologie chimiche, delle biotecnologie per l'ambiente, della tossicologia genetica e ambientale e della bioenergia è diretta alla formazione di figure professionali in grado di utilizzare le potenzialità delle biotecnologie per proporre soluzioni utili al recupero degli ambienti inquinati.

Ambiti occupazionali
La laurea magistrale in Biotecnologie Industriali prepara laureati con specializzazione nelle discipline biotecnologiche che hanno applicazioni industriali: potranno dedicarsi ad attività di ricerca in industrie impegnate nella produzione di piattaforme tecnologiche per la genomica e proteomica funzionale, nella produzione di proteine, enzimi, e anticorpi ricombinanti e nella progettazione di nanosistemi per applicazioni biotecnologiche. Potranno inoltre trovare impiego in strutture pubbliche e private di controllo ambientale, essendo in grado di utilizzare le potenzialità delle biotecnologie per proporre soluzioni adatte al recupero degli ambienti inquinati. Le prospettive di impiego riguardano prevalentemente l'industria chimica, chimico-farmaceutica, alimentare.
