Brief description of the degree course
Caratteristiche e finalità
Dopo aver concluso la laurea triennale in Scienze geologiche, gli studenti che intendano iscriversi alla laurea magistrale in Geologia e geologia tecnica si trovano a dover scegliere tra molti possibili percorsi didattici a causa dell'ampiezza e varietà degli aspetti professionali della geologia. In ogni caso l'obiettivo finale è quello di fornire allo studente, anche attraverso una significativa esperienza di lavoro sperimentale in campagna e/o in laboratorio, la possibilità di acquisire non solo gli strumenti culturali, ma anche la capacità di analisi critica necessari allo svolgimento del lavoro professionale e di ricerca in tutti i campi professionali della geologia.
Il piano didattico prevede l'approfondimento di materie raggruppate in due diverse tipologie:
1) corsi caratterizzanti e affini comuni a tutti gli studenti, riguardanti i processi fondamentali nei vari settori delle scienze geologiche;
2) corsi caratterizzanti e affini che lo studente potrà scegliere fra un limitato numero di corsi, sulla base di un percorso formativo coerente che desidera seguire.
Questo corso di laurea magistrale fornisce un'avanzata conoscenza degli strumenti matematici e informatici di supporto e padronanza del metodo scientifico di indagine; garantisce una solida cultura avanzata sui processi nei vari settori delle scienze geologiche; fornisce infine adeguate capacità di individuazione di problematiche geologiche di varia natura, di proposta di soluzioni idonee e di intervento.

Ambiti occupazionali
Previo superamento dell'esame di Stato il laureato magistrale in Geologia e geologia tecnica può esercitare la libera professione con iscrizione nella "sezione A" dell'albo professionale dei geologi.
Per le tre caratterizzazioni professionali, nell'ambito delle competenze acquisite, il laureato magistrale potrà svolgere attività di libero professionista, singolo o in studi associati; come dipendente, anche a livello dirigenziale, in enti locali o nazionali (Anas, Enel, Eni, Enea, Anpa, enti preposti alla conservazione dei beni artistici, archeologici e culturali, gruppi privati nel settore estrattivo); in società di indagini geologiche e grandi lavori di costruzione ed estrattivi in Italia e all'estero; in laboratori di analisi e ricerca pubblici e privati, italiani o esteri.
Questa laurea magistrale, consentendo agli studenti di potersi specializzare in uno dei tanti aspetti interdisciplinari che caratterizzano le scienze della terra, costituisce anche la tappa obbligata per la formazione, attraverso il successivo dottorato di ricerca, del futuro corpo docente e ricercatore universitario, oltre che del personale degli enti di ricerca di alta qualificazione scientifica sia italiani che esteri.
