Brief description of the degree course
Caratteristiche e finalità
Il corso magistrale in Scienza dei materiali forma laureati con competenze di alto livello nel campo della ricerca e sviluppo di materiali funzionali innovativi. Si tratta di un settore strategico nell'innovazione industriale, che richiede una preparazione interdisciplinare, caratterizzata dalla conoscenza degli sviluppi più recenti della ricerca scientifica nel campo. I corsi proposti riguardano inizialmente le applicazioni delle conoscenze di chimica e di fisica allo studio delle proprietà dei materiali per poi concentrarsi su tematiche di carattere più specialistico di scienza e tecnologia dei materiali. In particolare corsi specifici riguarderanno: - materiali organici e polimerici funzionali - fondamenti e tecnologie dei materiali per la microelettronica, in particolare semiconduttori - struttura e proprietà delle superfici - materiali nanostrutturati e nanotecnologie con particolare riferimento alla correlazione fra le proprietà microscopiche e quelle macroscopiche - tecnologie dei materiali, Due corsi specifici di laboratorio consentiranno agli studenti di familiarizzarsi con le più avanzate metodologie di preparazione e di caratterizzazione sia chimica che fisica dei materiali. Verranno forniti corsi opzionali che copriranno specifici ambiti scientifici, consentendo di focalizzare diversi ambiti di competenza.

Ambiti occupazionali
Un dottore magistrale in Scienza dei materiali avrà una preparazione adeguata a svolgere attività di ricerca e sviluppo in attività industriali ad elevato contenuto tecnologico o a proseguire gli studi nella Scuola di Dottorato in Scienza e Ingegneria dei materiali. In particolare la preparazione è focalizzata all'inserimento in attività di ricerca applicata nel campo della microelettronica, delle telecomunicazioni, dell'industria dei materiali molecolari avanzati (polimerici e non) ed in tutte le attività di piccole e medie industrie che richiedono continue innovazioni di prodotto legate all'impiego di materiali innovativi. In particolare, il percorso formativo previsto fornisce le conoscenze necessarie per inserirsi nella ricerca e nello sviluppo di prodotti che utilizzino nanomateriali.
