Syllabus
Prerequisites: Fundamentals of thermodynamics, heat transfer and machinery.
Target skills and knowledge: Acquiring skills that can be directly used in the design of machines and refrigeration systems.
Examination methods: Written exam.
Assessment criteria: The candidate is evaluated for the level of learning and the ability analysis of the cases in the study.
Course unit contents: The vapor compression cycles: efficiency analysis and methods to reduce the losses. The refrigerants: functional features, safety and environmental compatibility. The refrigerant circuit of the vapor compression and its components: volumetric compressors (reciprocating and rotary of various types) and centrifugal compressors; air and water condensers; expansion devices (control level valves, thermostatic expansion valves, capillary tubes); flooded evaporators and dry expansion evaporators; control bodies, security devices and accessories; technology of two-stage plants; technology of heat pumps. Refrigeration systems with CO2 as refrigerant: technology and applications. The absorption refrigerating cycles.
