Prerequisites: No prerequisites are requested (previous attendance to a course on forest policy and forest or environmental economics is advisable)
Target skills and knowledge: The aim of the course is to give students a broad view on the foundations and tools of responsible management of forest resources and the related production and trade activities.
Examination methods: Written and oral exams.
The written exam is based on a series of open questions (one for each module of the course). The oral part is a 20 minutes discussion on the contents of the course. The oral exam can be passed in the same day of the written test. The validity of the written test is of one year.
Assessment criteria: The final mark is the weighted sum of 3 criteria:
- the active participation to the lessons and the marks of the short essays prepared during the lessons (20%)
- the written test (40%)
- the oral exam (40%)
Course unit contents: After discussing some general concepts related to the responsible behaviour of private and public organizations, the course will present an overview of the tools implemented in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the main foundations and levels of commitment in CSR in the forestry sector. Main contents of the course are:
(i) Marketing development path, concepts and definition of CSR and government ethics in forestry
(ii) Private, public and partnership tools to support CSR
(iii) Foundations of CSR and different level of commitments in CSR
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course is structured in 6 units:

• Different level of commitments in CSR (Unit 6).
All the main contents of the course are discussed in frontal lectures. For each unit in the Moodle platform of the course the slides used during the lessons, some readings, other learning material, a checklist of the contents of the unit and, for some units, one or more tests are made available.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Papers and other learning material (videos, DBs, web sites, case studies, …) are made available in the Moodle platform of the course (https://elearning.unipd.it/scuolaamv/login/index.php).
