Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of the fundamentals of thermodynamics and chemical engineering
Target skills and knowledge: Plant Process (LT - Chemical Engineering)

The objective of the course is to give the theoretical and practical tools for describing the basic operations of the chemical industry, and for the functional design and operation of hydraulic equipment and some separation processes and the heat exchange.
The course examines the key aspects in the distribution of services for general manufacturing and supplying information for the understanding of the technical documentation of process plants.
Examination methods: Written and oral examination

Note: the final written test will not be performed if the students have passed the two written tests intermediates.
The oral examination consists of written answers to questions on the topics covered in the course.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of the preparation of the student will be based on an understanding of the topics covered in the lectures and the application of the methodology acquired through the solution of numerical exercises
Course unit contents: Program Contents:

Graphic representation of chemical processes. Valves, connections, pipes.
Recalls on the balance macroscopic energy.
Sizing of hydraulic circuits and operating principles of fluid machines.
Transport of liquid: pumps and kinetics. Transportation of gas: compressors, fans, blowers.
Storage of fluids, storage tanks and process protection systems.
Calculation of discharge coefficients from tanks or piping.
Heat transfer without phase change: heat exchanger concentric tubes, shell and tube, plate.
Heat transfer with phase change: boiling, kettles.
Separation evaporation, evaporators, single and multiple effect.
Agitated tanks: heat exchange systems and agitation
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course is conducted primarily through lectures.
Some hours are reserved for the numerical solution of some simple exercises of sizing of hydraulic circuits and heat exchangers.

The conduct of written test allows to verify the actual learning practical techniques of analysis illustrated in class.
