Syllabus
Prerequisites: Mechanics of Structures
Target skills and knowledge: Aim of the course is to enable students to plan and check the main elements of steel and reinforced concrete structures according to the modern calculation methods and the laws in force.
Examination methods: Written and oral exam
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of the preparation of the student will be based on an understanding of the arguments, on the acquisition of concepts and methodologies proposed and the ability to apply them in an autonomous and conscious way.
Course unit contents: Structural safety. Limit state method. Actions on structural systems. Materials for constructions. Structural behaviour of steel elements. Typologies of steel structures. Elements subjected to tension, compression and bending. Stability of steel structures. Bolted and welded joints. Structural behaviour of reinforced concrete elements. Bond and anchorage. Ultimate state for flexure and axial load. Ultimate state for shear. Serviceability limit states. Elements of design of steel structures. Verification of structural elements with Italian code. Numerical examples.
