Common characteristics of the Integrated Course unit

Specific characteristics of the Module

Course unit contents: This course, developed on 4 CFU, considers the following contents:
Introduction to the canine and feline breeds. Welfare of companion animals. Characteristics of the placements suited for the housing of dogs and cats and regulations settled on to warrant the animal welfare. The phenomenon of stray dogs in Italy: causes and strategies for its prevention. Dogs' shelters and catteries. Environmental enrichment. Feeding regimens and feeding behaviour in dogs and cats. How to asses the Body Condition Score in dogs and cats. Nutritional care of neonatal puppies and kittens, nutrient requirements of growing dogs and cats, feeding management and dietary requirements of dogs and cats during gestation, parturition, lactation and weaning; feeding management
and care of geriatrics subjects. Feeding dogs and cats alternatives to commercial petfoods. Feeding management of dogs and cats with adverse reactions to food. feeding management of obese subjects.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course is organized as follows:
- 28 hours of teaching activities
- 4 hours of exercises and seminars
- The possibility of technical visits will be evaluated every year
- The course is completed with the activities planned within the practical training (“tirocinio”) that the student must perform him/herself (hands on) under the supervision of a teacher.
