Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of translation theory and of the main problems of English-Italian translation.
Examination methods: Written test with multiple choice and open questions on the course topics.
Course unit contents: The course aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge of theories and methods in specialised translation. Starting from essential turns in specialised Translation Studies from the 1950s to the present, problems and trends in technical, scientific, economic and legal translation are outlined and skills in discourse analysis and translation criticism are developed. Macrotextual, discourse and genre features are first analysed as a basis to develop in-depth knowledge of morphosyntax, figurative language, terminology, phraseology and lexis. The chosen perspective is comparative and contrastive in order to throw light on translation methods and strategies and their underlying translation theories.
