Syllabus
Prerequisites: Bachelor's degree in Literature, History or Philosophy.
Examination methods: Final oral exam.
Course unit contents: The witness of Irenaeus of Lyons on the formation of the New Testament canon in the second century CE. The main theme of the course is the exposition of the biblical and theological thought of Irenaeus of Lyons, in particular of his theory of the Fourfold Gospel, which he develops against the Gnostic heresies of his time. Attention will focus on the third book of his great treatise "Against Heresies", both in its Latin version and in its Greek original fragments.
