Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of electromagnetic wave propagation and of quantum mechanics.
Examination methods: Examination will be an oral test.
Course unit contents: Optical susceptibility. Models for the description of the linear and non linear optical susceptibility of materials. Propagation of electromagnetic waves in linear and non linear media. Quantum theory of the optical susceptibility. Spectroscopic techniques for the measurements of linear and non linear properties of materials. Second order properties of non linear materials. Non linear index of refraction dependent processes. Multiphoton absorptions. Raman scattering and SERS spectroscopy of nanostructured materials.
