Syllabus
Prerequisites: Knowledge provided by the course "Basic Concepts of Psychology".
Examination methods: Final exam will consist of a written exam with both closed and open-ended questions.
Course unit contents: - Introduction to the study of individual differences in personality, intelligence and cognitive functioning; differences between nomothetic and idiographic approach.
- Personality traits.
- Relation between personality traits and intelligence.
- Relation between personality traits and cognitive functioning.
- Limits of intelligence as a construct and theories of "hot" intelligence (e.g., emotional intelligence).
- Nature/nurture interaction (e.g., Are we genetically or environmentally determined?), evolutionary approach.
- Individual characteristics and their impact in everyday life: Mood, motivation, creativity and leadership.
- Individual specificities in cognitive functioning. Single case studies and group studies. Cognitive reserve.
-Role of culture and lifelong differences.
