Syllabus
Prerequisites: Knowledge of introductory aspects of psychology (perception, memory, learning), models of cognitive psychology and individual differences.
Examination methods: The final exam is written and covers all the topics considered in the course material.
The exam will last one hour and includes:
1. multiple-choice and true/false questions
2. open-ended questions
Course unit contents: The course content includes:
- definition of spatial cognition and key concepts (i.e. cognitive map, spatial knowledge and representation, spatial thinking, spatial memory, navigation, wayfinding, individual differences, features of environment and space)
- spatial development, spatial learning, academic achievement and practical implications
- orientation, navigation and wayfinding
- spatial information acquired from spatial language, maps and virtual exploration
- features of buildings and natural settings in the environment
- individual differences in processing and representing spatial information: differences in spatial abilities, attitudes and strategies, gender-related differences.
- neuropsychology of space
- spatial and social cognition, and self.
