Syllabus
Prerequisites: In order to take advantage from the topics of the course, the student should be familiar with the fundamental principles of Physics, Biology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Genetics and general Physiology.
Examination methods: Oral examination.
Course unit contents: Module I: how the body survive to challenges.
Homeostatic mechanisms to environmental challenges.
Physiological responses to stress.
Aging.
Module II: The cellular response to DNA damage and repair.Molecular pathways activated in the presence of bulk lesions, double-strand or single-strand breaks, DNA crosslinks.Replication stress, oxidative stress, telomere dysfunction. Cell senescence, apoptosis.Polyploidy and cell transformation.
Module III: signaling pathways aberrantly activated in tumors, with a focus on haematological malignancies
