Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic understanding of environmental issues is requested. Non-engineering students need ability and readiness to study the course topics under a technology-oriented perspective. The course is taught entirely in English.
Examination methods: Examination is in the form of one written exam (120 minutes). The exam consists of a larger number of questions covering the topics of the course. Some exam questions require answers in text form and some require choosing correct answers among alternatives.

During the semester, the student has the opportunity to collect bonus points by working on homework assignments and a small student project. Homework and student projects are not mandatory, and any collected points will count as a bonus towards the final mark (increase of points achieved in exam by maximum 10% through bonus points).

B) Types of resources, incl. renewable resources; Pools, cycles and sinks of resources; Dynamics in resources consumption (key trends, cycles); Strategies for sustainable use of resources; Decoupling of resources use from prosperity
C) Concept of Industrial Ecology; Industrial metabolism; Material and energy flows
D) Circular economy; Perspectives from industry; Cleaner production
E) The challenge “energy”; Renewable energy
F) The challenge “food”; The resource biomass
G) Resources and urban growth; Innovative concepts
