Syllabus
Prerequisites: Numerical Analysis, Linear Algebra, Differential and integral calculus of functions of several variables
Examination methods: Computer implementation of a numerical project. Oral examination.
Course unit contents: Course introduction. Solution of sparse large-size linear systems: projective methods. Solution of ordinary differential equations: finite difference methods, stability and convergence. Solution of 2nd order ellptic/parabolic partial differential equations (PDE): classification, variational methods, finite elements, transient problems. Numerical solution of the diffusion and heat diffusion equations. Numerical project.
