Syllabus
Prerequisites: Solid state physics
Examination methods: Oral, laboratory reports, Standard class and laboratory class.
Course unit contents: Physical chemistry of solid surface: surface energy, electrostatic and steric stabilization. Chemical synthesis of nanoparticles (metals, semiconductors, oxides), physical properties, applications. Chemical synthesis of nanorods, nanowires and nanotubes, physical properties and applications. Thin films depositions. Nanocomposites: synthesis and properties. Part of the lectures will be held in the lab where the students will synthesize and characterize different kind of nanomaterials. It will be organized few visits at nanotechnology research labs.
