Syllabus
Prerequisites: No prerequisites are requested (having attended the course of Ecology and Forest Management is advisable)
Examination methods: Written multiple choice test and oral presentation. The presentation will be related either on selected papers or on the lab experience (according to the number of students).
Course unit contents: Forest structure: defining the main drivers structuring a forest stand. Classifying the vertical, horizontal and chronological structure. The importance of time.
Forest dynamics: the role of disturbances. Definition of forest disturbance and disturbance regime. Forest successions.
Dendroecology: study forest structure and dynamics with tree rings. Basic definition, the principles of dendrochronology, the technique of crossdating. Application of dendroecological methods to study forest disturbances.
